چکیده

Recently Ramos-Alvarez and Olarte in Mexico City (1) reported that 58 per cent of a series of 246 infants with diarrhea were positive for either enteroviruses or adenoviruses, in contrast to only 12 per cent of 158 control children without diarrhea. In a four-year study, Yow, Melnick and co-workers in Houston (2, 3) recovered viruses from 13 per cent of 560 diarrheal infants, but also found that 11 per cent of 568 controls without diarrhea were virus-positive. A recent review (4) of studies from North America and Western Europe could report no significant differences in viral excretion rates between diarrheal infants and control subjects. Consideration of these results suggested that the etiology of infantile diarrhea may have a marked geographic or socioeconomic variation, and that virus studies performed in areas of high incidence of infantile diarrhea might reveal an

Characterization of avian adenovirus type-4 causing hydro-pericardium syndrome in broilers in Karachi, Pakistan

Avian adenovirus was isolated from naturally infected birds during 1990 to 2003 in the vicinity ofKarachi, Pakistan. The virus is known to cause hydro-pericardium syndrome (HPS) in poultry. The mortalitywas recorded 20-50% in commercial broilers. Fifty field samples were collected; however, six samples wereselected for molecular studies. These isolates were grown and characterized by cell cultu...

Metal (II) Complexes of Fluconazole: Thermal, XRD and Cytotoxicity Studies

We report thermal, X-ray diffraction (XRD) and cytotoxicity studies of complexes of fluconazole (FCZ) with Cu (II), Fe(II), Cd(II), Co(II), Ni(II), and Mn(II). From XRD measurements, FCZ and its metal complexes were identified as polycrystalline. Marked differences in the X-ray patterns of drug and its metal complexes revealed that the complexes are indeed different compounds and not just the m...

Comparison of detection of Bovine virus diarrhea virus antigen in various types of tissue and fluid samples collected from persistently infected cattle.

Bovine viral diarrhea viruses are economically important pathogens of cattle. Most infections in susceptible animals are acquired from animals persistently infected with the virus. Surveillance programs rely on skin biopsies of persistently infected (PI) cattle to detect the infection. The purpose of this study was to compare antigen capture enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ACE) testing resul...
